Export and data portability

EML ZIP, MBOX and read-only IMAP export for controlled mail extraction.

Formats

DES includes tools for EML ZIP and MBOX export, as well as read-only IMAP export depending on the release. Choose a format according to purpose:

  • EML — individual messages and straightforward technical inspection;
  • MBOX — bundled mail for compatible import;
  • IMAP export — controlled extraction from an external mailbox.

Before export

Define mailbox scope, folder set, time range and destination. Ensure sufficient free space and a protected directory. An export may contain personal and sensitive data.

Verification

After completion, verify file or message counts, sizes, checksums when available and a sample of content. Do not delete original data immediately after export.

Transfer

Package the result in a controlled way, encrypt it during transfer and record who received it. Export files must not remain in a publicly accessible staging directory.
