Planning a migration to DES

Choosing a source, staging, mapping, pilot batch and acceptance criteria.

Supported approaches

DES contains migration mechanisms for Kerio and other sources through read-only IMAP export, EML, MBOX and staging or SFTP flows, depending on enabled tools. Choose an approach that does not modify the source system.

Before starting

  1. Inventory domains and mailboxes.
  2. Define mapping to DES addresses and folders.
  3. Validate encoding, flags, dates and attachments.
  4. Ensure sufficient storage capacity.
  5. Define a pilot batch and success criteria.
  6. Record the cutover and delta-sync plan.

CSV and staging

For bulk import, typical metadata includes mailbox email, source path, folder, flags, date, size and checksum. Verify source paths and prevent one file from being imported into the wrong mailbox.

Pilot

Begin with a small representative mailbox. Compare message counts, folders, dates, flags and a sample of attachments. Expand scope only after the pilot is accepted.
