Troubleshooting delivery
A method for inbound, outbound and internal messages that do not reach the recipient.
Outbound message
- Locate the message in Sent or outbox.
- Check licence mode and whether SMTP is on.
- Open Message Trace.
- Review queue state and the last remote error.
- Distinguish DNS, network, authentication, policy and remote rejection.
- Requeue only after a temporary cause has been corrected.
Inbound message
- Confirm MX and the public SMTP endpoint.
- Verify that the gateway accepted the connection.
- Locate the security decision.
- Review target mailbox, Spam and Quarantine.
- Check LMTP or mailbox delivery result.
Internal message
For two DES addresses, skip external DNS analysis and review domain state, recipient existence, policy, queue and mailbox storage. Record the trace ID before manual correction.
