Message Trace and timeline
Following one message through acceptance, security, queue and delivery.
Locate a message
Use message identifier, sender, recipient, subject, time range or queue or outbox ID. A precise query makes it easier to distinguish similar messages.
Timeline
Trace combines sequential events: acceptance, validation, security decision, enqueue, claim, retry, delivery or failure. Identify the first deviation from the expected flow.
Interpretation
- No acceptance — review SMTP or Edge and DNS.
- Accepted but not queued — review validation and security.
- Queue is retry — read the last error and next-attempt time.
- Sent is recorded but the recipient does not see it — review remote response, Spam and the recipient system.
Evidence
For a support ticket, record the trace ID, domain, time range and final state. Do not copy the entire message body unless it is required for analysis.
