Mail Access Mode: Basic and Proxy

Basic mode

In basic mode a user primarily works with their own mailbox. Access to shared content is granted through the basic sharing mechanism. This mode is more limited and easier to control.

Proxy mode

In proxy mode the delegation model is active. A user may select an authorised mailbox, work in its context and, according to permission, read, manage or send on its behalf.

Where it is configured

A System Administrator opens Admin → Settings → Mail Access Mode and selects basic or proxy. The change applies immediately and must be controlled because it changes Webmail behaviour.

Verification after a change

• Sign in as an ordinary user.
• Confirm that only authorised mailboxes are visible.
• Send a test message using an allowed identity.
• Confirm that an unauthorised action is denied.
• Review audit entries for act-as or delegation.
